AJ Merriweather selected for NCAA Dunk Contest

Prepare for take off.

High-flying ETSU guard AJ Merriweather has been invited to the Denny’s 2017 NCAA Slam Dunk Championship.

The final dunk in the video below is of Merriweather dunking in practice the day before the team’s game against Florida in the NCAA Tournament. His dunks in practice went viral, and were recognized by ESPN and Yahoo Sports.

Merriweather has also made multiple appearances on Sportscenter’s Top 10 for his throw-downs.

Merriweather will compete against seven other dunkers in the competition at Grand Canyon University Arena in Phoenix as a part of the 29th annual State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships. The competition will be on Thursday, March 30 at 10 p.m. It will be broadcasted on ESPN.

There have been three other ETSU players to ever participate in the contest. Calvin Talford did so in 1992, and won the competition. Former ETSU players Justin Tubbs and Deuce Bello also made an appearance in the contest.
