ETSU tennis coach resigns mid-season

ETSU men’s and women’s tennis coach Yasser Zaatini has resigned his position of head coach.

ETSU Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Richard Sander said they are looking for an interim coach. Sander said March 17 on 1420 AM Tri Cities NBC Sports Radio that he wasn’t allowed to give details on the situation.

The move was unexpected, as both the women’s and men’s teams are in the middle of their seasons.

At ETSU, Zaatini had a 244-96 record coaching the men’s team and a 90-40 record coaching the women’s team. As coach, the men’s team won nine consecutive conference tournament titles and berths to the NCAA Tournament. He coached the women’s team to NCAA Tournament berths in 2011 and 2014.

He has won conference coach of the year awards 8 times.
