Cheers from hundreds of fans, ETSU coaches and players filled the Millennium Center as ETSU’s name popped up on CBS’ “Selection Show”.
The bracket revealed 13th seeded ETSU will face off against the 4th seeded Florida Gators in the bracket’s East Region. Florida finished the season 24-8, which was good enough for second in the Southeastern Conference behind Kentucky.
Florida led their conference standings at one point this year, and many touted them as possibly the best team in the SEC. They went a little cold at the end of the year though, losing 3 of their last 4. Two of those were to bubble team Vanderbilt.
The Gators were lead this year by Kevaughn Allen and Kasey Hill. Allen was first team ALL-SEC and Hill made the second team. Hill also made all-defensive team.
Canyon Barry, son of former NBA star Rick Barry, won Sixth Man of the Year in the SEC. Head coach of the Gators, Mike White, was named coach of the year.
ETSU will play Florida on March 16 in Orlando, Florida for the first round of the tournament.
The top four seeds in ETSU’s bracket were Villanova, Duke, Baylor and Florida respectively.
