East Tennessee State University will host Furman Wednesday night to see which team can inch closer to the No. 1 overall seed in the conference.
Currently, Furman is half a game ahead of at 13-3 in Southern Conference play, ETSU is 12-3. Furman is coming off a loss last Saturday to University of North Carolina- Greensboro. ETSU tallied a victory on Saturday against rival Chattanooga on the road.
It’s Senior Night for the Bucs. Four of the starters are seniors: TJ Cromer, AJ Merriweather, Tevin Glass and Hunner Mosquera-Perea. The other seniors that will be recognized are Isaac Banks and Peter Jurkin. Although, ETSU is seeking one more year of eligibility for Jurkin.
Look for Tevin Glass to come out aggressive tonight. The ETSU forward hasn’t missed a shot in his last two games against Samford and rival Chattanooga. ETSU will also try to limit turnovers, a problem that has plagued the time throughout the season.
On the defensive end, ETSU coach Steve Forbes has been concerned in the last two home games that opposing teams have been shooting 50 percent or better. Forbes elected to switch from man to man to the 1-3-1 zone against Samford and ETSU kept Chattanooga’s offense to a low shooting percentage. Defensive intensity will be a focus for the Blue and Gold.
ETSU is currently riding a six game home winning streak.
The two teams will square off at 7 p.m. inside Freedom Hall.
